Dear @Mer__edith and the the amazing @signalapp team,

Dear @Mer__edith and the the amazing @signalapp team,

After the last update, the Signal "desktop app" is requiring us to launch the mobile app - however, many of us do not have the Android or any other "mobile" version of the Signal app any more.

We are a large (by our standards) group of phone users, and your "desktop" app is our "mobile" app : )

Our previous phones on which was initially activated was an Android or Apple device and we have since then completely migrated to . Some of us may have registered Signal on , Flare, , Signal Android in , etc.

The community is growing - we have members spanning a good number of projects and devices, e.g.
- @purism and running -based , -based or ,
- @PINE64 and PP Pro running , , etc.
- @furilabs running -based ,
- a wide variety of Android phones (including OnePlus 6, Google Pixel 3, 4 & 5) running -based @postmarketOS ,
- @volla , and devices running by @ubports,
- devices running @mobian which is part of project, etc.

[Apologies to any project I may have failed to include - you are all appreciated]

@Mer__edith @signalapp @purism @PINE64 @furilabs @postmarketOS @volla @ubports @mobian I understand that addition of linked desktop devices can be a security concern from Signal's point of view. However, please allow us the option (after registering/activating on Signal Android) to completely move to the and deactivate/deregister the mobile version altogether. You can even make this dependent on the mobile user granting permission.

Thank you for the great work you all are doing for and secure communication. Although we do not like the phone number requirement, we still consider Signal one of the best communication apps and have on-boarded countless numbers of users.
